Dear Parents of
Gifted and Talented Students,
The students in my Gifted and Talented classes have been corresponding with senior citizens from the Tallahassee Senior Center. In November, the seniors are scheduled to visit Astoria Park where their "pen pals" will interview them. We will film all the interviews and then edit them all into a final product, an approximately one-hour film showcasing the seniors' lives as well as our own future Katie Courics and Jon Stewarts! Students and their families, seniors and Astoria Park teachers and staff are invited to the screening of our ÒDream ProjectÓ film.
Filming the
Interviews
In order for us to conduct the interviews on Wednesday, November 4th and Wednesday, November 18th, rather than attend their usual Gifted and Talented classes, students are scheduled for only 30-minute blocks.
To accommodate a fourth-grade field trip on November 18th, all fourth-grade interviewers (and two fifth graders, Samuel and Tori) are scheduled for November 4th. All other students are scheduled to conduct their interviews on November 18th.
The last two Wednesdays in October, students will write their interview questions and practice interview skills.
Parents, unless your child is truly sick, it is imperative that they not miss school; there will be no Òmakeup dates.Ó
The Movie
A special screening of the students' film will take place in the Astoria Park media center on Wednesday, December 9th, at 6:30 p.m. – popcorn will be served! Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend!
More details about this class and resources for students are on our class web site:

Volunteers Needed
It would be wonderful if one or more parents could help with the film interviews at Astoria Park on November 4th from 8:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m and November 18th, from 8:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Volunteers would help by ushering seniors from the office and picking up students from their classrooms to make sure that we follow our tightly packed filming schedule. If you can help, please send me an email.
Thank you so much for your help! I look forward to seeing you all on December 9th.
Sincerely,
Sandy Beck
