Screech Owls are
chunks of tree bark
broken chocolate bars
witch's cats
flying dust bunnies
cinnamon buns
shape shifters
red embers of a dying fire

River Otters are
speeding bullets
slugs
water snakes
sneaky spies
mutant cats
brown splashes
Olympic divers
river worms
frolicking clowns
acrobats doing tricks
racecars
dancing mermaids

White-tailed Deer are
blankets of brown leaves
broken lawn mowers
pieces of cookie dough
raging tornados

Wild Turkeys are
canyon parks
skateboards
twigs
raw fish scales
fluffy wigs
chunks of chocolate
sobbing old men
rainbows glistening
in the sun

Red Wolves are
leaves on a tree
fires burning wildly
stormy grey clouds
sharpened knives
private eyes
silver bullets
dodging through the forest
police sirens

Bobcats are
flapjacks
piles of rotting leaves
rays of golden sunshine

White Squirrels are
little snowmen
iced cakes
mountains of Antarctic snow

Florida Panthers are
bloody noses
golden brown slices of bread
sleeping lizards

Alligators are
giant logs floating on the water

Striped Skunks are
garbage cans
Oreo cookies

The Cypress Swamp is
a bowl of Jello
a mud puddle
a chocolate cookie
amber-colored glass
a cup of tea
a mirror

The Habitat Trail is
a peaceful place
where everyone has
plenty to eat,
a cozy bed,
a tree to climb
and a best friend.
