Artists reach deep inside themselves to pluck out inspiration, then use special skills to cook up unique paintings, dance, architecture, sculptures, stories, poems and other works of art.

In this class, students will learn how to create POEMS, or WORD ART, by:
  • reading poems by many different poets, including
Walt Whitman
Robert Frost
William Carlos Williams
David Kirby
John Haines
Emily Dickenson
and others.
  • using the writing process . . . brainstorming (clustering, free-writing, daydreaming, researching), writing, revising
    and publishing.
  • modeling their favorite poems.
  • focusing on "showing" reather than "telling."
  • experimenting with many different kinds of poems.
  • responding thoughtfully and constructively to others' writing.
  • creating a personal poetry porfolio and a collaborative on-line chapbook.
