inside themselves to pluck out inspiration, then use special
skills to cook up unique paintings, dance, architecture, sculptures,
stories, poems and other works of art.

- In this class, students
will learn how to create POEMS, or WORD ART, by:
- reading poems by many different
poets, including
- Walt Whitman
- Robert Frost
- William Carlos Williams
- David Kirby
- John Haines
- Emily Dickenson
- and others.
- using the writing process .
. . brainstorming (clustering, free-writing, daydreaming, researching),
writing, revising
and publishing.
- modeling their favorite poems.
- focusing on "showing"
reather than "telling."
- experimenting with many different
kinds of poems.
- responding thoughtfully and
constructively to others' writing.
- creating a personal poetry porfolio
and a collaborative on-line chapbook.
