Turtles

Lake Jackson Ecopassage
Every spring in Leon County, hundreds of nesting female turtles from Lake Jackson emerge on to land to lay eggs. When they attempt to cross busy US Hwy 27 to reach Little Lake Jackson, these turtles are killed. Matt Aresco, a graduate biology student at FSU, built a temporary fence to funnel turtles, as well as other species, safely under the highway.   A permanent ecopassage (guide wall and culvert system) is needed to replace the temporary fence so that this continuing wildlife mortality problem can be stopped.
